Wednesday 1st August 2012: 3.30pm. After three hours of groking the intricacies of Irish corporate tax law - one of the least complex tax laws in the OECD, so I should count myself lucky - I got my company's corporation tax for 2011 filed. It tells me I have a tax rebate of €673 coming which is nice except for the €5,296 loss I made last year due to those damn Meizu M9 phones, each of which I lost a good €70 on. On the other hand, I get to carry €533 of relief into the 2012/2013 tax year, so I guess I'll get it back eventually.
Sometime this year I must pay myself a dividend of at least €1,860 or face a close company surcharge to corporation tax. I think I'll wait till I'm living in Canada for that, then I can reclaim the 20% withholding tax they force you to deduct during payout. Anyway, now onto my personal tax return for 2011 ...
